> A friend sent me CDs of the Ubuntu version of Linux, after I posted
that I use eCS, but have to boot to Win98SE occasionally to be able to view
videos and use other browser plugins that aren't available for eCS. He
suggested I try Linux, as it has some of those plugins available.

> I've never used Linux, and have no clue how it works. I do have space
on my drive to install it, and play around with it. I have a 100 Gig
drive, with boot partitions for eCS 1.2, eCS 1.1, and Win98SE handled by
Airboot. I have a Fat16 partition that is drive D for whichever of those I
boot to. The rest of the partitions are HPFS - E through J are two gig
each (I've kept the configuration I used for years, when I had OSes that
had limits on drive size they could recognize.) I have two 20 Gig HPFS
partitions after those.

> The rest of the drive (40 Gig) is unformatted at present. Could I
install the Linux to that free space? If so, how would I go about it, and
can I do it without messing up my eCS and Windows? Will Airboot find it?
Will booting the Linux CD write anything to my primary (eCS 1.2) partition,
and, if so, can that affect eCS 1.2?

> I have DFSEE 8.02, if that helps.

It does. Use it to create whatever partitions you want Linux to use
before you start the Linux installation.

Start by reading this long thread, because we just went through all this
just this past week: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/os2user/message/28611?l=1

Note that for Ubuntu to be able to access your HPFS partitions you will
need to rebuild its kernel. Not all Linux distros impose that problem.
