subject: begin 1997 - upgrade to 56kb?

works?
It is an asymmetric client-server transmission scheme that exploioits the
predominatly digital nature of the telphone network. Provided the server has
a direct digital connection to the telco network, and there are no
interveneing analog conversion facilities, the line card at the client's side
of the link is used a a ditial signal changer instead of a voice band
coder/decoder. This allows up to 56kbps data transfer rates in the
server-client direction. In the direction of the clinet to the server, V.34
technology is used.
 JS> I think, the USR Sportster hasn't a FlashRom..
One model (the DSVD) does, and it is ironic that it will not be upgradeable
to the new technology. A ROM swap will be required for the other models.
JS> So, is it possible, that Supra modems can be easily upgraded by a flash
rom to this new standard.
No it will not.
JS> Does anyone has information how it excatly works and how Fido-BBS-System

It would only be useful to a BBS that already has ISDN capability. As this
(if trunk side) meets the requirement of a direct digital link to the
network, a suitable device could function as an 56kbps server to 56kbps
capable clients (at present, there is only one capable device in fairly
widespread BBS host service, the USR Courier I-modem).

No problems at all, hopefully my reply will be as easily understood by you.
