Oh I'd certianly like to but have never before manually
installed a driver rather relying on the installation routine
to take care of that for me.
I assume there are entries in .ini files as well as the registry
as well as a utility on the desktop to set resolution
but am not confident in my ability to kludge it together
properly especially as regards the registry.
I imagine were I able to use these drivers my video apps would
 positively scream.
I could drop the DLL's into \system and move the drivers to where
the current ones are but lacking a working installation
executable lack confidence in this approach.

 I'll figure it out.
Only time I mess with hardware is to expand capability
and that's largely been the result of probable failure
of my fast page mode RAM in the 486.
I had primitive online access on the Pentium three hours after my
extended RAM went belly up on the 486 though it took me
a week to get it to where I'm happy with it.
 Currently 633 - 618K conventional memory available
which is a bit more than I had before.
This with all my sound card and CD drive drivers loaded in
 high memory.

CA> AFAIK Windows will decide what IRQ is used where etc. I've not

I only retreive it as needed, think I'm correct on this point
 however so no real worries.
Thing is I pretty much try to know what I'm going to do
will work before moving hardware, so far I've had huge success
 on this point.

I'll have three O.S.'s on the system.

With that sort of kludge I'd not even venture a guess.

CA> I'm guessing given enough time and money this is where you are

I'm headed for Linux with Windows just being a interrum
handy O.S.
I'll copy and manage backups on partitions well beyond
1,024 cyliders by fdisking with Linux and copying to those
partitions with Linux after mounting those partitions.
I'm beginning to get annoyed with browser limitations
with 3.1 or I'd be more agressive in attempting to get those
Asus video drivers to work.
