Hmmmm...... Have you ever thought that they are trying to reduce the costs/disk
space of the extraneous non-academic material from the server so that the *REAL*
purpose of the system (research/education) can be better utilised?

Their gear.....their policy.
 
My suggestion to your plight is:-

* dig in pocket
* extract money
* pay internet provider
* obtain and register software

and voila! all fixed.
