[ Quoting Jack Stein to Quenn Finch ]
QF> You missing the big point my friend. You forgeting that
QF> people who are in Muilti-media, engineering, business or
QF> whatever will have to use Windows anyway.
JS> When that happens, computing will really be in the dumpster.
It sounds a lot like QF was just describing the classic purpose for a Mac!
QF> You run your text mode/Dos apps and I run my great GUI apps.
JS> You run your gui crap, and I'll run my great text mode apps.
Hehe :)
Some things are better done in text mode, and some are better done in a GUI.
Some things are better done in Windows95, and some are better done in OS/2..
Depends where you're coming from, where you're going, and what you want to
do on the way.
JS> with mine. Boxer for OS/2 and OS/2 Commander, both OS/2 and both
Yes! Go the Norton Commander clones :)
JS> want my opinion. My kids use WP for their school papers, it does a 100x
JS> more things than they need or want.
WP is THE biggest piece of junk I have ever used. Word97 beats it without a
doubt.
JS> I never used WP suite, never used Word Pro or Describe or any other
 JS> OS/2 word processor
Describe is as bad (if not worse) than WP/2.
 JS> I don't publish a paper or a magizine, what on
JS> earth would I need all that crap just to write a letter?
True. When presentation/style/class isn't that important, it doesn't matter
a bit. I always tend to go to extremes to make my assignments look as
professional as possible. Word95 comes in rather handy for that.
JS> install WIN, they have to use what comes on their PC.
A generalisation if I ever saw one.
JS> installed, thats what they use, thats ALL they know. It's called
 JS> "ignorance"
It's called "close enough is good enough".
JS> IBM is making tons of money, they really don't care what software they
 JS> sell you.
They make squat from OS2. They are more interested in the machines
hemselves,
and some applications (not many).
JS>library and see MS's high end junkware locked up on 4 out
 JS>of 5 machines
Um, are you saying the librarians are competant in computer skills? I know
my librarian THINKS she's good, but she's a twit that uses Nexus for the
'Internet' connection (educational sites only, $5 an hour, and located in
another state). She also thinks I can spread viruses by putting an infected
disk in a pile of non-infected ones. Yet she's in charge of the 20 odd
486/586's. Gee, I wonder why I never go in there?
JS> today. NT is not a patch on the a** of UNIX, and likely never will
                                      ^^^
Can you let me know if Dave says anything about that? I'm collecting
evidence...
JS> IBM sells tons of WIN apps, whats your point?
The majority of which are released for Win before OS2.
JS> the other venders sell WIN period, like, what color do you want, as
 JS> long as it's black.
I'd prefer a black computer to this tired old 'cream' anyday.
