It takes getting used to the Beyer cans; I bought mine without having
heard them, just because I like most of Beyer's products, then I fell
in love with them, and would be lost without them.
For critical listening I prefer my old Stax electrostatics, but those are no
good for high SPL listening, or deep bass response. Take care.
LC> I LOVE the Stax, always have, despite the above limitations. I freaked
LC> out a bunch of people on an airplane flight to a C.E.S. back in the
LC> early '80s (before common/widespread portable CD's) with a "laptop
LC> computer" type softcase which in one side was a mini 3-head Marantz
LC> cassette w/DBX, and a pair of Stax with their "portable" Class A
LC> headphone amp, and on the other "side" was an additional battery pack
LC> setup and cassettes. WONDERFUL sounding, one of the best sounding bag
LC> setups I've heard until the advent of "portable digital"....
Yeah, the Stax are very sweet, but don't use them right after
a shower, when your ears are still damp; I did that once, and got
a pretty nasty poke! That "laptop" setup sounds like it was fun; of
course nowadays you can buy a good portable CD player for a good price,
and enjoy it all day for little money (I still don't like 16 bit
digital very much, but for something so protable, it is a good value).
I have been lusting after laptops for some time now, but I think I
would go with a "portable" type, rather than a true "laptop", since
I would have to carry so much extra stuff with it to get what I am
used to. Take care.
... There is no such thing as too much "clean" when it's audio!
