I work for a major electronics retail store and would like to point out
that none of our low freq cordless phones are digital, one of our 900 Mhz
phones is analoge, and just today (18 Dec 96) in our market are we starting
to sell a cellular that is digital (PCS Sprint). I sold two analogue
cellulars yesterday myself and can see a continuing market for them at this
time. However, the digital PCS phones will carve out a big share, especially
when they build more towers (area coverage) nation wide.
As far as listening in goes, I was under the impression that cordless was
also illeagle. However, my opinion is that any electromagnetic signal
transmitted (narrow beam or broadcast) should be fair game. And if someone
can build the receiver and/or decoder they should be free to listen.
So, it is fair to say that since not all people are obeying the laws, if
you transmit something, there is probably someone out there who can and is
listening. I, myself, have neither the expertise or desire to do so. But to
paraphrase the movie "If they can build it, they will listen."
