>My AG for some unknown reason pulled almost all of his red tail feathers out >last night. There has been no changes in his or our routines etc. around >here, and he seems as healthy as can be. He did start to go into a molt >about a week ago, but that's about it. Well, you *could* start with a vet workup, to rule out any hidden illnesses, or injuries. That way you'd *know* it's not health related. >Of course, we are keeping an eagle eye on him, and are ready >to shoot him off to the Vet if anything else happens. Just be careful that you don't "reward" him for plucking by giving him too much attention. And don't 'fixate' your thoughts on "Is the bird going to pluck some more?"--that may push him to do it. Odd as it may sound, they seem to know when you're worrying about them, and it may make him nervous enough to pluck some more. Try not to think about it. --Kathy Weird ( and scary ) - >at least I've got a wack of feathers to make earings for my wife.
