You'll have to set up one of the modems to use a non-standard IRQ
setting because ports 1-4 use only two different IRQs. If you want
to also use your fourth port for something else, or leave it open,
set both modems to non-standard IRQs. But typically, you can get by
with just one of them set that way. Try:
Mouse on COM 1 / IRQ 4 - standard setting
Nothing on COM 2 / IRQ 3 - standard setting
Modem on COM 3 / IRQ 5 - non-standard, jumper change on modem
Modem on COM 4 / IRQ 3 - standard setting
Alternate for COM 4 would be IRQ 2 if available on your machine. This
would allow use of all four ports with no restrictions..
If I remember right, (I have a Supra 288i and a 336i) your modem only
supports IRQ's 2-5.
If you have problems with setting up Windows 3.x or Windows 95
to recognize and use ports 3 and/or 4, insert the following at the
top of your AUTOEXEC.BAT:
DEBUG < C:\FIXCOM.DEB
and FIXCOM.DEB would be a text file containing the following:
e40:0
F8 03 F8 02 E8 04 E8 02
q
or this, if you go with IRQ 2 for COM 4:
e40:0
F8 03 F8 02 E8 04 E8 01
q
Some systems (old and new) do not properly recognize ports 3 or 4
if there is an unused port 2 and this fixes that problem. I needed
to keep this in autoexec.bat all the time when I ran Win3x.. It was
only needed once for Win95 to set up and install the add'l modem..
