subject: ASM optimiser

DG>DG>Is there a program that will take an assemlber
DG>DG>source file for input and
DG>DG>output a file with suggested optimizations and/or possible detection of
DG>DG>logic errors?
BM> Detect logic errors? In assembly language? That is doubtful...
BM> optimizations, however, could be done, especially if it was written for a
BM> different processor...
DG>Well I'm looking for something that will take x.asm(x86) and turn it into
DG>y.asm(optimised for 486+).
That part could be done without too much trouble... like changing multiple
SHL
instructions to a single SHL instruction (286+ can have an immediate value
or
a SHL, but an 8086 can't), or turning a REP MOVSW into a REP MOVSD (it would
have to find where you assigned CX as well)... I don't know of any programs
that do so, but if you send it to me, maybe I could work on that.
