I'd heard about it last night on ABC TV news, which pumped the "Shock horror: NORAD, Air Force caught with pants down!" angle more than the article does. *No* support whatsoever for "we shot down Flight 93" or other conspiracy crap. Within a few days of 9/11, I realized there were souls out there who simply assumed the US must have hundreds of fighters on hot alert all over the country. We certainly could within a day or so of an appropriate DEFCON -- and the baseline has been raised significantly since 9/11, as have "red phone" procedures between NORAD and civilian ATC. But apparently these folks think it's been that way nonstop since... what? 1950?
