Out of date, Adam (or true today only if like Phil you restrict your view
to the US's dimmest -- Coulter, Savage, FOX, the Weekly Standard, our
President -- and through that kind of filter no country comes off well.)

I see a lot more balanced treatment of all the Allies' role in WWII even in
"general literate" venues -- newsmagazines, History Channel,
Smithsonian etc -- today than I did 30 years ago, when I was writing about
the war for a big pop history book. At that point I had to educate one of
the publishert's consultants, a colonel (ret.) and West Point mil.hist.
teacher, who was under the impression that Kursk had been about the same
scale as Market Garden...

And even then it was perceptibly better than it had been when I was a boy
in the 1950s. Hell, remember my family background -- I imbibed genetically
the view not only that WWII hinged upon the war with Japan (John Wayne,
Sands of Iwo Jima), but that the central battle there was US Marine PR vs
Douglas MacArthur's PR. :-)
