Case by case, Adam -- too many apples, oranges, pomegranates, bananas,
persimmons and gooseberries out there for comparisons to help much.

If it were 1945-1948 again, would I rather see a Jewish state carved out of
Bavaria than out of Palestine? Yes -- making Arabs pay for European crimes
was bogus, and I'd rather modern states not grant privileged status to
*anybody*'s land claims based on ancient mythology. No end of trouble
waiting there...

That said... I believe that short of Israel's destruction, there have been,
are, and will be times when Palestinians and other Arabs who resent Israel
(but want even more to get on with their lives) need to say "stop
it" to -- and even enforce it on -- those whose priorities are the
other way 'round. And Israel isn't going to be destroyed without side
effects that will make all Israeli *and* Arab sufferings since 1948 look
trivial.

"Unjust?" Sure, there's a lot of it going around -- Ireland,
Basques, a Holocaust's worth of displaced Germans/Poles/etc in 1945, lots
more. Come to think of it, I've heard rumors a continent was stolen
somewhere around here not all that long ago.
