Somewhere in the mid-nineties of the past century. When the Aopen stuff
used to comply to professional standards.
As I told, the AKA-73Pro was about the last good mobo they made (early
2000). Since then, aopen has to be avoided.
Some manufacturers have mobo with excellent scsi support (direct boot
from Cd for example). - Aopen is not one of them.
I have still the Aopen AKA-73Pro here, and it sill is working excellent.
I do have it's successor too (KA-77 Pro), and I had to accept the
decline in quality (=stability) is a mere fact. (-:
As a further comment I'd like to add, all adaptec 2940UW and -UW2 I had
and still have failed to boot from scsi-cd on any Aopen mobo. OTOH, I
could boot/can boot with the very same cards on my former Epox 8krda+
and my actual Gigabyte mobo.
Bottom line: when Adaptec told the bios (mobo) was/is at stake, they
had/have it right.
