Hi Graeme,
I can see your point to some extent as most sound cards have analog outs and
so can give noise problems. But an external module will always cost more for
the same spec and I personaly like "Big screen" editing rather than fiddling
about with a 2 line LED and multi function buttons. Obviously, Some external
knobs/keys/sliders are VERY handy for recording but over all I think there's
a lot to be said for internal kit. ie....
Yamaha's new AWESOME SW1000XG PCI soundcard.
Multi I/O, inc SPDIF digital, so no noise.
MU100 synth. plus multi effect on synth and Audio I/O.
Socket for VL (vertual synthesis) add on card.
MIDI, 1 in 1 out.
DX5 compatable drivers, so you can use it for Quake 8-)
ASIO drivers for Cubase.
How much? RRP œ399UKP and œ100UKP for the VL add on !!!!
To have close to that with External gear would cost more than double. And
thats ignoring the multi I/O PCI HDR.......
And then there's Yam's STUNNING "DSP farm" PCI card.
O2R digital mixer + 2x REV500 effects units + Multi Dig & Ana I/O HDR + full
VST/LA/CW integration and automation.
How much? RRP œ899UKP + œ399UKP for Multi I/O expantions (O2R =
~œ6000UKP/REV500 ~œ400UKP each)
And these are RRP's that will drop a good 25% in the first 6 months. Guess
which I'd buy 8-)
