Things to try, based upon similarly bizarre behavior from the font
palette variously in times past:

1-Try again immediately after a reboot
2-Clean your INI files, and try again, preferably after a reboot
3-Remove all currently installed TTF fonts, then install only the ones
you know you want. There's a REXX file in msfontpack1_2.zip on Hobbes to
do that more easily than using that brain-dead font palette.
4-Make sure your Verdana.ttf file is July 2001 or newer, 149,752 bytes.

The open source fonts from
http://dejavu.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page make a very nice
addition to your palette too.
