I was at a craft fair recently, and saw some work by a Michigan carver.
She carves wooden birds, fish, animals, flowers and feathers small
enough to wear as pins or tie tacks, and paints them. The feathers
especially looked REAL, and they were all gorgeous.
I asked her if she did custom work (specifically parrots), and she said
that she works from photographs to do custom carvings. (I bet she could
also do a parrot feather if she had samples, but I didn't think to ask
her at the time).
Her price for a custom carved pin from a photo is $25.
