Hi Eddy--
It should be "PL/I." The "I" is a roman-numeral
"1" so it is
pronounced "pee ell one." The "I" for "1" is
an old IBM language
idiosyncrasy. PL/I is an old IBM language, vintage 1965 or so. Before
C came along, PL/I was favored by the "computer science" types.
Nowadays, it is still favored by we non-computer-science types who
prefer a rational programming language suitable for both "scientific"
and "data processing" applications (IMO, C is suitable for neither!),
but IBM has priced PL/I out of the amateur market. David Noon still
thinks that "PL/I Personal" will return some day. I'm not so sure, but
I am willing to wait. In the meantime, I am using a back-version (VA
PL/I "Standard" v 2.0 for OS/2) that seems to still work OK.
Regards,
