There are global and localised searches on the IBM websites. There's
also a search engine site, which can do some pretty fancy searching
(actually rated quicker and better than Google, Yahoo, Lycos etc. etc.)
But you don't need this complexity for what you require.
The global search is the one at the very top of the page, within the IBM
coloured heading block - this is probably the one you are using and it
will normally bring back hundreds if not thousands of matches, sequenced
by problem resolution articles first, as this is normally what someone
is looking for when they use that search.
When you go to a specific part ob the "IBM Web" there are localised
search engines, these are what you need to search for download files and
techie type doco.
So I always start by saying I need PC support of some kind.
So I start at:
http://www.pc.ibm.com/support
This is the start page for support of not only PCs but also Intel based
IBM Servers.
If you know the model number of your system, for example a Thinkpad T42
is a 2373, you can put this in and go straight to the grouping of files
relative to that system, then select from the various groups, product
info, downloads, problem finding etc, and then you will have a shorter
list of matches to scan through.
If you don't know the model number you can select from the
www.pc.ibm.com/support level the groups, eg Thinkpad&WorkPad, T series
and so on, to get to where you were when you typed in the model number.
There are several groupiing including the lasy one operating system. If
you don't know any of them, leave it blank and simply press go.
Hope this helps.
Cheers/2
Ed.
