  Scott.  You are one smart dude!!  I am overwhelmed with your
  answer.  Wow! ;-)
  Back in the old days of Basic, I used to know a location in memory
  that held a number that corresponded to the number of seconds or
  ticks (??) that DOS would wait before it caused the drive to stop
  spinning (after a DIR, etc etc).  If you wanted an immediate
  stoppage, you poked a zero there (ie no wait), if you wanted to keep
  the sucker on forever (like they did in FASTBACK ...the backup util)
  you poked a 255 in there.  Do you think that you could try one more
  time and "KISS" it for me and tell me where that poke is?  I can do
  a DEF SEG.  Thanks.  Peace.
