-=> Quoting DAVID HARTUNG to JEAN HALVERSON <=-
DH> Not related, but We had some neighbors in the Deerfield area with
DH> your last name.
JH> Well, Halverson is the Norwegian version of Smith. But they probably
JH> are distantly related. After all we _all_ are related, just some more
JH> distantly than others.
DH> Well, the ethnic majority in the Deerfield area is Norwegian! Got so
DH> that I considered filing for minority status(my heritage id
DH> German)!
The place where Steve's family settled also has a large contingent of
Polish folk. Grandpa Halverson once said "Woe unto the man who greets a
Polish neighbor in Norwegian". Apparently the Polish consider that an
insult. Grandma Halverson was German though. A Roecker.
Did you ever come across any Austinson's (Eystenson)? Just curious.
Ilks...
DH> To do this explanation justice, I will defer to one of the senior
DH> Ilks in the echo. Short version that several years ago, a drive-by
DH> made a nasty comment about Rush and his ilk, and thus was born the
DH> Order of the Ilks. To join, you merely declare yourself to be an ilk,
DH> and then practice the salute. The Ilks salute consists of an upraised
DH> fist, with the middle finger extended!
Well, I am an Ilk then. I already know how to do the salute, having learned
it in my uncivilized teens.
DH> ... Electric chairs are period furniture: they end a sentence
Yet another good one!
Jean Halverson
... Die dulci fruere.
