Hello Ian,
-> I have done a fair amount of writing in the medical field, including
-> on
-> myasthenia gravis, which is a neurological disorder. There is a Bulba
-> classification in MG too, and the Bulbar refers to the nerves that ar
-> affected, in MG's case by the immune system, but in polio by the viru
-> areas controlled by the bulbar nerves are swallowing, facial movement
-> tongue, vocal cords and diaphragm. So breathing, chewing, speech, swa
-> etc. can all be compromised if those nerves aren't working properly.
You pretty well described what I experienced. The facial paralysis,
tongue and vocal chords. As I remarked, Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat
specialists since then told me that was more like the effects ob Bulbar
polio than encephalitis. Encephalitis is an inflammation of the lining
of the brain. I just don't know.
I had encephalitis when I was 19 and I'm 63 now. I'm also a smoker so
it's hard to tell what's going on. The effects of smoking don't help
matters at all.
I guess I'll just throw my hands up in the air and say - Oh Well!
Thanks for your information.
