Hi David,

DN> In a message dated 01-16-99, Andrew Grillet said to David Noon about
 DN> "APL2 for OS/2"

DN> I've got some COBOL, some FORTRAN IV and, if I rummage around in my
DN> garage, I might even have some KDF-9 Autocode. All waiting to be
DN> uploaded -- except the last as it won't run under OS/2.

AG>If it does anything useful, I might be persuaded to write a KDF/9
AG>emulator - provided there is a decent spec somewhere.

DN> The KDF-9 does not do anything that cannot be done better in other
DN> ways. The only reason I was still writing its Autocode in the 1970's
DN> was because my then-employer, ICI, had over 35,000 programs in
DN> registered production and most of these needed maintenance each and
DN> every time they were run. It was _that_ good.

I suspected I was not opening myself up for months of work. My suggested
project for an ICL1900 emulator did not get much further. Shame really -
I would have got an Algol68 compiler out of it!

DN> Note that FORTRAN IV was a major step up from K-code.

But NOT a major step up from FORTRAN-II.

Andrew
