subject: Clutch

Hello all, I have a question to any mechanical genius out there:
Ok here goes... The other day I was driving to work, push the clutch
in, and I hear a loud BANG, the pedal goes limp. The clutch is band
new (2 weeks old) 1st thought was fingers collapsed or something
similar. I had to fisish my drive to work in 1st. well anyways after I
get to work, I start looking, I thought maybe the adjuster worked
loose and fell off? nope, it was all there, but the 'equliser bar' the
big metal funny shape that is connected to the rod coming out of the
Fire wall attaches to and piviots on the frame and engine. Some how
this bar came loose from the engine side, everyone I asked said, yup
you broke an Engine mount, but if it was broke, wouldn't sticking a
jack under the enging and lifting seperate the enging from the frame?
this doesn't happen. it lifts the frame up as well. I finally got the
clutch back togather again by removing the bolt in the mount, jacking
up the engine, placing the bar in the bushing and have someone gently
drop the motor back in place while I guided the bar into place.
Does anybody know how this could have happened? Is it going to be a
recurring problem? or is it a marval mystry!
BTW the clutch is in a 1966 Mustang, 289, 4 speed.
any answers or theories?
Bryan
