A .jpg copy works fine here,  I have a Nikon w/ 512mb card.

I can copy any file to the card when it is plugged into a card
reader.  I have not tried to do that when the camera is the host of
the memory card.

In fact, one time while in a pinch, with no interconnectivity
between 2 computers,  I used the chip and a card reader to copy and
transfer files to another computer, similiar to what you would do
with a floppy.  A 512MB floppy, if you will.  It worked well.
