[ Quoting Mack Barss to Scott Little ]
SL> OSR2 upgrades are upgrades to support NEW hardware, such as MMX,
MB> Your statement doesn't hold water Scott.
I'm quoting from a computer magazine (yes, it's a good one).
MB> 1.2 gig hard drive partition all as C: would be using 32k clusters.
Trying to impress me with your 'knowledge' :)
MB> stated that it could be bought with a new motherboard, which you never
MB> stated had to be a MMX capable.
I didn't know that for sure, but I had the impression 'New motherboard' meant
the latest models.
SL> I know it'd be hard for you, but just ring MS and ask them "can
SL> OSR2 be purchased with a new motherboard or large HDD?".
MB> ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
MB> Look... your stating it again.. a NEW motherboard or LARGE harddrive.
Yes, and I still stand by that statement, until MS ring me up and tell me
otherwise.
MB> Now Scott.. just what do you consider to be a LARGE harddrive and
Large to me is a 5.6G. But MS use the term LARGE to refer to drives which
suffer from 32k clusters.
MB> you, it would have to be an MMX motherboard. But what if I only
MB> want a 1.2 gig harddrive or a non MMX motherboard?
Then it's not NEW HARDWARE and OSR2 doesn't have much to offer that the
standard release didn't include.
MB> Admit it Scott, Microsoft is giving you the shaft.
EH? Why would MS tell me to buy something illegally?
MB> call... oops you call the place that sold you the OEM version since
MB> Microsoft will tell you to call the OEM that you bought it from.
Yeah, your point is what? Any Win95B specific problems are most likely
technical problems (since the major part of the code is unchanged), which
can't be easily fixed over the phone (and which would require re-training
quite a few support staff).
Regards,
- Scott
