I'm so tickled!
Remember the post I made about using Christmas music in lessons? Well, I
finished my "Amahl" lesson. I've done that with classrooms before, with mixed
results (some kids loved the music, others didn't but at least learned
something). I'd never done that with just two children before, but figured it
would work.
My own girls loved the story, loved the book, and the music. Of course I have
to admit that my girls have been brought up with classical music. Jennifer
was a little wide-eyed at first about Amahl's mother, and also about Amahl,
because their voices are trained. But she said later that she found it very
easy to follow the libretto in the book, which made it more understandable.
She saw the relationship between Amahl and Tiny Tim (they're both crippled
and want to give away their crutch), and Amahl and The Little Drummer Boy
(they both want to give something to the Baby Jesus). We are trying to locate
a copy of the videotape, but are coming up rather dry. My folks say I have it
and I remember returning it, so it disappeared someplace. Well, maybe PBS
will run it next week.
Some of you are already aware that I also introduced my kids' to the symphony
concert last Sunday. That was also successful.
I hope each of you has a happy holiday season - for those of you whose season
came a little earlier than the Christian season, I hope you had a wonderful
holiday season.
