In a message dated 12-25-98, George White said to Jonathan De Boyne Pollard about "VisualAge C++ for OS/2" Hi George, [transferred from the OS2 echo] JDBP>Version *4*! When did that come out ? GW>Official release date was 18th December. GW>btw, recommended RAM according to a follow up post was 128 Meg!!!!! What??????????!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????? But C/C++ produces the leanest, meanest object code possib... Well, I guess that's another urban myth gone west. The way things are shaping up with IBM language tools, I am rapidly becoming a devotee of Sibyl, the Object Pascal generator from SpeedSoft. It might be wall-to-wall GUI, but it will run on a 16MB machine quite comfortably. I don't see why I should quadruple my RAM for a compiler. The current VAC++ is already a memory hog with its WorkFrame/2 and Visual Builder. It soaks up all the spare bytes of my current 32MB and pages quite a deal beyond that. I cannot conceive of what IBM did to make the situation even worse. Yes, Sibyl looks a winner from my point of view.
