While digging a shallow grave, Robert bestowed upon us this wisdom...
RP> On 02-25-98, MICHAEL MCSORLEY declared to ALL:
MM> And another thing, what about Iran?
RP> Iran is an equal threat, if not greater, when it comes to chemical and
RP> biological weapons, and they are very close to having the ability to
RP> deliver warheads to every mideast capitol.
MM> What about Syria?
RP> Don't know Syria's current status weapons wise....
See crosspost...
MM> What about Isreal?
RP> Israel is not an aggressor nation. However, let Iraq or Iran lob a
RP> few chemical or biological warheads at them, and the offender's capitol
RP> would very quickly start glowing in the dark.
That's my concern. Though I agree that Israel is not an agressor and that
anybody "lob(bing) a few chemical or biological warheads at them" would be
able to see their newspaper at night without a lamp, in this day and age a
nuclear strike (no matter if it's just one warhead at somebody who may
eserve
it) could very easily turn into two, then three, then six and so on...
M.A.D. kept us and the Russians from blasting each other to kingdom come
because, deep down, we both (as I see it) wanted to be reasonable. Too a
point, anyway...
Get a nifty Jihad (sp?) going between some mid-eastern nuclear powers and
there will be people not involved feeling the sting. A nuclear blast (as we
all know) is not something that a small country can sustain without it
affecting its neighbors. That'll REALLY get `em into a frenzy to bring Allah
and whatever other gods may apply into the thing and people might start
sending everything they've got at each other.
RP> We have no concern
RP> about Britain or France having nuclear weapons, nor should we have
RP> concern about Israel having them.
Telling everybody to dismantle their nuclear arsenal would be like telling me
to stop smoking. I know it's bad for me and it's a probability that I'll
regret continuing this nasty habit. But I continue anyway because...well...I
just DO.
I'm not trying to trivialize nuclear arms by comparing them to cigarettes. My
point is that we all know this could bite us in the ass but we continue on
anyway. Is ANYBODY really responsible enough to have a nuclear arsenal? I
doubt it.
My fear is this "domino theory". If somebody gets a twist in his knickers and
decides that nukes are the way to go, somebody else might find it easier to
o
the same. I'm quite sure there are guys out there that are developing these
weapons not to preserve peace, but to fulfill a religious prediction of some
sort. It makes sense to them, anyway... Just LOOKING for a REASON, you know?
That's basically my problem with this whole thing.
peace
Mike
