Batdorf ***
Having confronted Dr. David, Barry Laws, Jr., International Man Of Mystery,
exclaimed:
BLJ> What's the status of the Carolina Monarchs (who BTW haven't had a good
BLJ> season since they were in the ECHL)? Are they being put on the shelf

(Yes, the joys of minor hockey: Every year is a rebuilding year.)

BLJ> for 2 years (since the Carolina Hurricanes will play their first 2
BLJ> seasons in the Greensboro Coliseum, the home of the Monarchs), or will
BLJ> the Monarchs move somewhere for 2 years then return to Greensboro
BLJ> after the Hurricanes go to Raleigh?
Well, there has been mentions of it in our local newspaper, though
there has been a few details left out. First off the Monarchs have
moved to Hartford (what a trade, eh?), but are now sponsored by the New
York Rangers instead of the Florida Panthers. Now the Carolina
Hurricanes have abandoned sponsorship of the longtime affiliate
Springfield and have placed a new team in New Haven which is also called
the Hurricanes. What the Panthers are going to do for a minor team I
have no clue.
Now there is no chance of the old Monarchs coming back to
Greensboro, however every year there are teams shifting and affiliates
changing. There is a possibility that either the AHL or IHL will allow
a franchise to shift there after the Hurricanes leave, or failing that
I'm sure the ECHL will definitely make sure the building doesn't stay
empty.
                                       Sincerely Yours
