I also have a Pentax *ist DS.  USB connection works great with eCS v1.1 
installed here, just hit "refresh removable media" and it pops right up.  
USB is fast enough that I never bothered to try an SD card reader with this 
desktop.

Excellent choice of camera by the way.  Wonderful viewfinder, and it uses 
all the Pentax lenses I have been accumulating for the last 25 years.  For 
me it was a bit of a dream come true!
