Hi. This may sound like a dumb question, but...
I've been programming as a hobby on and off for probably fifteen years
(since I was in seventh grade, whenever that was! ). I started, of
course, with BASIC. Since then I've learned Pascal, C, and C++. And
now I finally got a programming job using, of all languages, COBOL!
To be honest, although it seems to be generally out of favor with new
programmers it's really a rather nice language for the most part.
Anyway, I do COBOL mainframe (IBM) programming. We use a database
system called DL/I (Data Language I). Now, getting to the point, you
program everything in COBOL and use calls to DL/I to access the database.
My question is, are there similar things available for PC's using
(hopefully) C++? With COBOL on the mainframe you can also use SQL/DB2
as a database instead of DL/I (though we don't have DB2 at work), and
SQL seems to be fairly common in the PC world, but I don't know how to
interact with it using C++. What software do I need?
Thanks,
Frank
BTW, at this point I have Borland C++ 3.1 and I *don't* have Windows!
Soon, though...
... I'm sorry, but you've got something I need.
