BM> JK> that you contact Dr. Terry Neher and start learning
BM> JK> from him what can be done with a remedial diet. Or you can contact
BM> JK> C.A.R.E. or
BM> JK> Chemical Abuse Resources & Education, P. O. Box 1141, Tacoma WA (206)
BM> JK> 572-2273. Talk to Craig Wills, the Community Outreach Specialist who
BM> JK> does prevention and education in the local schools. He is really
nto
BM> JK> remedial nutrition.
BM> What does any of that have to do with ADD or ADHD?
1. Dr. Neher developed a specific food supplement that works much
better than Ritalin does on ADHD children who are from families with a
history of alcoholism
2. Craig Wills has taken that supplement for a couple of years and is
also a certified and state licensed drug and alcohol counselor. The
place where he works dispenses information about addiction and related
subjects, such as ADHD in the families of alcoholics.
3. Ritalin is known to have caused problems in children who have used
in for a long time. One of them that isn't generally mentioned outside
of drug and alcohol circles is the talc that builds up in the brain,
causing problems with the peripheral vision.
I consider this important enough to mention. I am also a drug and
alcohol counselor and registered nurse who is only too well aware of the
number of physical and mental health folks who don't know how to
medicate or not medicate alcoholics and their family members.
BM> JK> I have been studying alcoholism and addiction with related problems
BM> JK> for well over 25 years now, and I think that I have a much better
BM> JK> handle on what is going on in this field than you do.
BM> That's all well and good, but (at the risk of being a bit
BM> peseverative) I'll ask you again - what has any of that to do with
BM> ADD or ADHD?
I'm going to tell you once again, slowly.........IT HAS EVERYTHING
TO DO WITH THE CHILDREN OF OR THE FAMILY OF ALCOHOLICS,
EVEN IF NO ONE IN THAT FAMILY DRINKS AT THE MOMENT!!!!!
IF AN ADD OR ADHD child is given drugs, they will not work like they
do on other children while a remedial diet will work.
And, the better agencies, such as C.A.R.E., will have someone on staff
who knows about this and can assist parents to find a doctor who will
prescribe what is needed.
Is it too much to ask of parents that they watch what their kids eat?
BM> JK> If you get the home page for the National Alliance of the Mentally
BM> JK> Ill, or NAMI at www.nami.org you will find that the neurotransmitter,
BM> JK> glutamate, has just been found linked to the underlying pathology in
BM> JK> this disease.
BM> I have and that's not exactly what it says, as you well know.
I don't think you understand what you are reading. I think that it
would be very useful for you to find someone close to you who does
understand brain chemistry and have them explain all of this to you.
In any
BM> case ADD/ADHD is not a disease, it is not "curable" and it most
BM> certainly is not a mental illness.
What it is, is a neurological anamoly of some kind or another, a
variation of the usual genetic make up of those who have it. It is a
genetic condition and therefore is classified as a disease just as is
alcoholism or diabeties.
Did you know that insulin is also a neurotransmitter? And that given
every day, it allows a diabetic to live a normal life? There is one
example most of us are familiar with of a disease gotten before birth
"fixed" daily by a natural substance which is what the insulin is.
Another example of a disease gotten before birth is the PKU child, who
will be "normal" in every aspect ONLY IF PUT ON AND KEPT ON, a special
diet at birth! That is remedial diet.
BM> That is more than likely so ... (perseveration mode on) What has that
BM> to do with ADD or ADHD?
See above. Also medical journals and others that can be found in larger
libraries these days.
If you can surf the net, get your Yahoo to find "brain chemistry" and
start in.
