"PCS" stands for "Personal Communications System". It is a bundle of
features added to regular wireless telephony. Those features are
Incoming Caller ID, Voice Mail, and Text Messaging. Sprint attempted to
make "PCS" into a brand name, sort of like IBM tried to get "PC"
trademarked as a brand name. Like IBM, Sprint failed. Any wireless phone
carrier can provide and market PCS services and call it PCS.
AT&T Wireless provides PCS services on their TDMA digital accounts. Bell
Atlantic NYNEX Mobile provides all PCS services on their CDMA digital
and their AMPS analog networks. The Audiovox MVX565 analog phone
supports ALL PCS features, and sells for under $50 with new service
activation or renewal.
