MB>I have a couple of questions....if the cuttings work and are

MB>I guess most of the directions just say how to start them. I've

So far, so good. Use a (I believe) very loose soil mix. Yes, once
you have them potted - just water them for the first week or so - let
them develop proper soil roots - but fertalize after that with your
favorite fertalizer diluted to about 1/4 of what it should be so as
not to burn the roots. If you mix the fertalizer into the water for
daily use, reduce the concentration to 1/8th. I don't know what
Miracle Grow is - but any balanced fertalizer such as 20-20-20 will
do the trick.
MB>Can most plants be started by cuttings? Or just certain types?
MB>I'd like to try some impatiens and others but not sure what will
MB>root from cuttings.
Stem cutting for impatiens - they work very well on the soft part of
the stem. Almost anything can be grown from cuttings though there
are some variations. Very soft stemmed plants are easy, but some
harder woody plants work slightly better using a rooting hormone.
Certain plants will root from stems only, others may root from the
leaf stem. (african violets, for example).
One thing is it's often easier to root certain plants in soil instead
of starting them in water. The transition from water to soil has
some additional hazards. But - make sure the soil you use has been
properly steralized. (Actually - pasturized - not steralized).
