Hello, Charles. -=> CHARLES ANGELICH wrote to WAYNE CHIRNSIDE <=- CA> People think the 8250s and 16450s are less capable than they CA> are. From my testing 57600 is not a problem for either of them. FWIW, here's what my book (Upgrading and Repairing PC's, 12th Edition) had to say about those - - "The 8250B chip might work in an AT under DOS, but it does not run properly at 9600bps because, like all 8250's, it has no transmit/receive buffer." 16550A - "Use a version of this UART in your serial port if you do any communications at 9600 bps or higher. If your communications program makes use of the FIFO - and all of them do today- it can greatly increase communications speed and eliminate lost characters and data at higher speeds. Virtually all Super I/O chips contain the equivalent of dual 16550A or later chips. Most 16550 UARTS have a maximum connumications speed of 115Kbps (bits per second)." Good luck. - - - JimH. ...
