AFAIK the release of chlorine or flourine gases reduces
hydrocarbon synthetics (the rubber) to other carbon based
substances (the glazing) and is a straight line function. It
would only accelerate if exposed to higher temperatures. 

The amount of time required for the roller to slip would repeat
the same cycle until the roller is reduced in size beyond being
used for it's intended purpose.
