On 02-26-98, DAVID HARTUNG declared to ROBERT PLETT:
DH> RP> Teaching at a college part-time places me in the position of working
DH> RP> with the products of our public education system on a regular basis,
DH> RP> where direct interaction and observation shows them continuing to get
DH> RP> worse. The situation is well beyond pathetic.
DH> What do you teach, conservatism 101?
Ah, would it were so.
Teach computer stuff nowadays, primarily programming in Turbo Pascal.
Something of a change for somebody who used to teach Air Conditioning
and Refrigeration full-time there. It came about largely because I
had to create all the software I used in teaching Air Conditioning
courses - animated graphical simulations and such.
Had I the machine for it, they'd probably have me teaching JAVA. Maybe
before too long I'll manage to spring for the hardware so I can
comfortably do so - they've got me handling the lab portion of Computer
Concepts running Win95 apps, including Netscape and IE, as it is (My
machine barely runs Windoze 3.1, which I hate and avoid, although I've
done a bit of contract programming for it for a Tulsa manufacturer - to
quote Quigley from the movie Quigley Down Under, who, when forced to use
a Colt 45 he never carried instead of his beloved rifle, outdrew and
gunned down three bad guys then said, "Never said I didn't know how to
use one." ).
