SM>I wish the cold would kill those awful bugs.
SM>The problem is, I don't know where they nest.
Only a very few adult earwigs will survive the winter cold, and most
of them will be in places such as you describe. The rest - out in
the wild, are still in their eggs and won't hatch out until later in
the Spring. Even then they are very small and almost transparent -
you won't see them until perhaps late June or well into July.
The best way to get those indoors is one at a time as you find them.
But - when the weather starts warming up try to make sure there are
few places they can get into the house.
First - clean up all old and rotting wood that may be near the house.
That means wood piles - as well as old rotting stumps. Dead leaves
too. They love places like that. Then you can try Diazanon spray.
Spray all around the foundation - on the OUTSIDE. Spray especially
under all the windows, and don't forget to spray the risers on the
outside steps. Doing this will discourage the little beasties from
coming into the house. You will have to repeat the spraying about
every two weeks - or after every rain to be certain it remains as an
effective barrier.
By combining the cleanup of the places they nest and breed - and the
"barrier" where you have sprayed you should have far fewer coming
into the house.
