I'm pretty sure the problem is your modem setup. Selecting the Hayes
14400 setup may be sending some incorrect initializations to your Boca
modem that is causing your problems. There should be a way to custom
install your modem in Netscape, but just in case there's not,
you can "cheat" by selecting Hayes compatible, and change the
initialization string to suit your modem's capabilities. Assuming that
the Boca modem is Rockwell based, here's a generic initialization string
that'll suit most of your needs:
AT&F&C1&D2%C2\A3S11=55S95=1
Check your manual to make sure, but this should support V.42bis
compression, set any use of MNP to the largest blocks possible, set
your modem to speed dial, and report the DCE (modem-to-modem)
connection speed instead of the DTE default (port speed).
For Windows 3.1, make the following changes to your SYSTEM.INI file to
support use of the 16550 FIFO that your modem has:
[boot] section:
COMM.DRV=COMM.DRV
If you have Cybercom installed, this will read:
COMM.DRV=CYBERCOM.DRV
[386Enh] section (substituting your COM port # for the 'x'):
COMMdrv30=FALSE
COMxFIFO=2
COMxBUFFER=1024
COMxAUTOASSIGN=1
COMxTXSIZE=14
COMxRXSIZE=8
COMBOOSTTIME=30
Make sure Windows is running in 386 Enhanced mode.
If I can help further, let me know.
Stu
... I'm not panicking. I'm examining all options at high speed.
