Hello, All. Just some friendly advice: In the 20+ years I have been running Microsoft Windows off and on, I have -never- had a problem with a single Microsoft-issued update except for a service pack on a 64-bit system (which was fixed soon after its release) and even that affected less than 5% of the entire Windows userbase. For those of you who are "holding out" on Microsoft's updates, doing so is akin to walking around with your fly open and your junk flying in the breeze: something bad is bound to happen. Realize also if you do not have the latest updates your antivirus/antimalware software may not work at its most efficient state. I have watched this subject banter on and on in here for years and I've shaken my head at some of the silliness that's discussed. Think of this logically: if Microsoft didn't want you to fix things, they wouldn't issue updates, right? Using multiple antiviral/antimalware software at once -can cause false positives- and you may be giving yourself unneeded heartburn and headaches. Just run one software package and stick with it (I've used avast! for about a decade now with no problems). Those two subjects seem to make up 90% of the traffic in this echo from the same people. These days, though, Windows runs in a little virtual machine on my Linux box, safe and secure from the rest of the world (I keep Windows around for some ham radio software that won't run right with WINE) so maybe I'm a little biased. :) Later, Sean --- GoldED/2 3.0.1* Origin: Outpost BBS / Johnson City, TN / outpost.slyip.net (1:18/200) SEEN-BY: 3/0 633/267 640/954 712/0 313 550 620 848 953 @PATH: 18/200 261/38 712/848 633/267 |
