From: "Gary Britt"
All I know is in another life, while working as a CPA a client who had
emigrated from Canada and was operating a new construction business came to
my office early on to have me calculate his payroll checks and the taxes to
be withheld. When I gave him the checks he examined them and exclaimed
incredulously is this withholding correct? It can't possibly be that low!
Of course all Americans thought (correctly I'll add) that it was quite
high!
The Canadian client explained the withholding for taxes would have been
MUCH higher in Canada. On another day he described it like this: In
Canada we don't have as many potholes as in Houston, TX, but in Houston, TX
we get to keep so much MORE of our money. We both agreed keeping more of
our money was MUCH BETTER.
Canada won't extradite a person to the US for a crime that might have the
death penalty attached to it. So if that doesn't indicate Canada doesn't
support the application of the death penalty, then you and I have different
views of reality.
So John, I'd say I'm doing pretty good. Ah.
Cheers,
Gary
