Dave, it was =very= late when I wrote the above, otherwise I would have 
thought of the obvious: enable your ModemLog!  Here's a snapshot, giving you

The log is enabled via: Control Panel, Modems, Properties, Connection, 
Advanced, "Record a log file" (just below the "Extra Settings").  There is 
one little known advantage to this: with the log file anabled, you'll now get 
an option under System Monitor to see your modem in action! :-)
