Hi Diane
One of the things you might consider is replacing it with drywall.
This should be easier and less expensive. Friends of mine had a problem
with a ceiling in their home and did that. This was something they were
able to do themselves. To have the ceiling re-plastered had to be done
by a professional for a lot more money.
I offer this suggest while not knowing how bad the damage is and if
there is a water problem. You might also want to decide if it is
important to restore it to the origianl standard in order to maintain
the historical value of the home.
