Hi Jim,
The 12J0449 number you have from the drive is the FRU (Field Replacment
Unit) in other words engineers spare part number.
There should also be another "option number" on the drive, which could
be the 07N3673 that you have been quoted.
If you refer to:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=TJEK-3QGU6U
You will see that this part is obsolete, ie no longer sold as a retail
part. The replacement part will normally be a larger, faster, better and
often cheaper to you, part. technology marches on !!
If you REALLY MUST have the same part, new, you can probably buy in
through "IBM Spare Parts" - call your local IBM phone number and ask to
be connected to them, but BE WARNED the price is likely to be 3 or 4
times MORE EXPENSIVE than the part was retail when it was available -
this is beacuse you are buying engineers spare parts, which have had to
be stored at a cost and IBM will be taking a risk by selling off part of
their spares in this way - hence the price will be "un-reasonable".
Your other option would be to try the re-marketeers who "re-furbish" old
parts - it you can find one of these with the part you want, the price
will be more reasonable.
Why "must" you have exactly this 5.1GB 2.5 inch eide hard disk ??
Cheers/2
Ed.
