Joe, no argument here. ...BUT, I just hope that PowerBasic will continue
their fine upgrades to the DOS "jobbie" they have. I have v3.2 and
am on the fasttrack (or whatever it's called) and personally cannot
wait for the 3.3 to see the light of day. I would like for the
folks at PB to offer beta upgrade patches via FTP to allow us brave souls
to upgrade a copy of the latest "official" version (now 3.2, of course)
to beta test their new ideas for them. We're here.
rtPATCH, or some company like that, has a method of patching a file
you already have with new upgrades and/or code changes, so that
"evil" people who don't own a legit copy of the 3.2 cannot DL the
FTP Patch and gain benefit from it. Patches could be very small,
I'm thinking in the 50k region of "smallness".
Comments to this -from others besides you- Joe, are welcome -but
comments to Bob Z and Dave N would prolly be better on this subject.
I thought OS/2 would take the world by "storm". I Joined an OS/2 users
group here in Raleigh of 130 members. Then that WIN95 "thing" came
out and has muddied up the water for me. I have to run WIN 3.1 at
work on 150 PC's but WIN95 keeps barking at my back door. I haven't
let it in as yet, but it keeps barking. All the new PC's sold in
the area have WIN95 on them, "none" have OS/2. Even the refurbished
PC's at the IBM OUTLET MALL at the airport have WINdoze installed on
them instead of OS/2. I know that OS/2 WARP is the better OS of the
two (ie OS/2 vs. DOS7+WIN95)... but $$ is $$.
As long as I can run my PB3.2 programs in a DOS window or from an
icon in WIN3.1, I'll be happy as a frog eating flies on a June night.
That's this 53 year old "boy's" opinion. Your mileage may vary.
Oh, and Thank you for all the code you have supplied to all of us
freely which we borrow and use in our "projects" Please don't stop.
Peace.
