Hello Ann,
It is good to here from you. Hope all is well with you, new hubby and
family, down there near Shreveport. What's the weather like now?
EG>I am the proud owner of a Legend 4 wheel scooter.
AC> Congs....I'm glad that the event finally happened. Haven't talked with
AC> you for a while but am tickled to hear this...I remember fighting with
AC> VA for my Dad's. When the right ones saw me, 5 ft 2 and Dad, 5ft 11 and
AC> 260lbs, I guess they realized that I couldn't push him around. Then when
AC> they learned I had PPS, they gave in with no fight...
The HMO put me through far too many changes, including have a home
health department supervisor, with the responsibility of facilitating the
issuance of any DME including scooters, tell me that I do not qualify to get
a scooter since I can walk (at all.) Granted, ignorance of my disability, by
persons not afflicted, is something I have to learn, and do try, to
take into consideration. However, I blow a fuse when some moron with
no knowledge of PPS tells me, unequivocally, what my capabilities are or
should be. Would you believe this women told me that my HMO had a list
of specific diseases for which the patients afflicted with same may
qualify to get a scooter. Not a list of disabilities with qualifying
degrees of severity, but a list of diseases. Guess which disease wasn't on
the list? And I'll bet they treated my case as an exception to the rule
rather than add PPS to the list. Enough about that.
EG>suggestions?
AC> I can't help with the problem. I had the lift put in the trunk of a big
AC> car...It worked great, I had a little trouble manuvering it because I
AC> was so small...
I wish I could do that also, but even big cars are difficult for me to enter
and exit. I'm about 6'3" and unfortunately currently 290 pounds. I have
to bend my legs, stoop, and twist myself around, all simultaneously in
order to get in and out of cars. My much higher pick-up truck is much
easier for me to use. I'll eventually have to get another one or van since
this one is so old.
AC> There are a lot of extended Vans that have just the right amount of room
AC> for your scooter behind the back seat....that's what we got later for
AC> Dad. It worked well. The lift doesn't take up much room....Two back
AC> doors or one, that really doesn't matter. Hope things in your world are
AC> doing well.....Glad to see you here....don't be a stranger....{{{HUGS}}}
Seems as if I've been on some sort of emotional roller coaster since my
mom died in March. Most of what transpired regarding the scooter
happened back in January and February and since then I've been pretty much
involved with my mom's illness and subsequent passing. When the scooter
dealer called to say that he had received authorization for my scooter,
it was a breath of fresh air in the middle of an emotional fire storm.
Having no way to transport it makes it a hollow victory at this point,
but I'm working on it. Thanks for the hugs and the caring, it's GREAT!
Hopefully, hubby doesn't mind you sharing the hugs and my returning
them so vigorously. Take care.
