It may be that people pervert the dog, but the fact is that many of these
types of dogs (for whatever reason) are a menace. I was on vacation taking a
walk with my small children (ages 2,4,6) when a Staffordshire Bull Terrior
pulled his chain off its eye-bolt and came after me and my kids. We were on
a public road. Lukily, I grabbed a large branch and kept the dog away while
I moved my kids to safety. I called the State Police and the dog went after
the trooper. He shot the beast. I know people love their dogs, but some
animals are dangerous and should not be allowed to roam freely. What
possible pleasure could someone get from an animal that can't be trusted or
has the very real potential to be danerous to others?
There was a story on the news not long ago about people who found a pit bull
on the street, took it home, and it chewed off the foot of their baby. The
couple were interviewed on TV and they said they still wanted to keep the dog
after the incident. I love my animals too, but some owners act like their
pets are more important than their children, neighbors, and people in
general. Why is this?
... An unusual child is one who asks questions that his parents can answer.
