Could be...and Carl was definitely one of the Good Guys.
The annual charity dinner-concert-silent auction for Carl's
child-abuse prevention centers was just last week -- first
time he wasn't there, and he was sorely missed.  But several
of his Nashville friends (Billy Ray Cyrus, T. Graham Brown,
Sylvia, etc.) had already agreed to perform, and they all
kept their promises to him.  In fact, I understand a number
of Carl's friends and admirers in the entertainment business
have taken it upon themselves to keep the charity events
going for him.  Considering all the people who knew and
loved Carl, there should be no shortage of talent for these
events -- and most of them are "stars of yesterday" who are
still very popular, just don't turn out hits constantly
these days.
But we'll never see Carl onstage jamming with the likes of
Vince Gill, Steve Wariner or Charlie Daniels again; and
nothing can replace the magic of those jam sessions.
