AIrlines make their money from business passengers.
In the future, there will be two types of long-haul airliner - connected
and not connected. The not connected ones will have few business
passengers and will make a loss. Darwin.
What the airlines have to do next is bundle the charges. Business
travellers will pay $2000 for the flight, but insist on the $2 gin and
tonic being bundled. Revenue opportunity or not, in-flight costs have to
be bundled.
Rented laptops on board? Not only did the previous guy install malware,
but he flattened the battery and changed the network definitions. A hard
drive refresh between flights? I think they have enough to do during
turnaround. Pilot, co-pilot, flight engineer and helpdesk?
Interesting issues. Assigning your inbound email address during electronic
check-in? Deciding the seat over there would be better and moving your
local IP address?
"Excuse me, miss - could you move 192.168.0.167 to Row 3, Seat A?"
